Don’t Pay An Arm And A Leg For Halloween Decorations

Halloween is a fantastic occasion to let out our darker, spookier sides.  But, if you aren’t careful you’ll be scalped when you go out to buy your scary Halloween decorations.  Try these tips to have a howling good time without spending a monstrous amount of cash in the process.

First, make use of low lighting when decorating for a Halloween party.  When you dim the lights or turn many of them off, you create an instant spooky atmosphere.  It doesn’t cost anything to turn down the lights.  You can also purchase black lights or other colored bulbs to put in lamps you already have to create an eerie effect in the room.  Try red or orange bulbs to add a bloody glow to the scene.  Don’t forget to pull out any old candles you may have around the house to help set the stage.

Second, use items that you already have around the house to make props rather than buying them at an expensive party or Halloween store.  For example, you can use a sheet and a helium balloon to create a ghost in an incredibly short period of time.  Just obtain a helium filled balloon at your local grocery or party supply store.  Then grab a sheet, wrap the center of the sheet around the balloon, and tie the balloon into the sheet so that the balloon becomes the head of the ghost.  You can then just let the ghost float in a corner of the room.

Third, when you do go to the party store to buy Halloween props and decorations, look for big yet inexpensive items that will fill the room.  Seek out large signs and wall hangings.  There are numerous wall hangings that depict everything from skeletons to ghosts to dungeons.  It is possible to pay a lot of money for these props.  On the other hand, if you take the time to search, you will definitely be able to find pieces for under twenty dollars.  And, don’t forget that those bags of fake spider webbing can cover up to 135 square feet of space for less than five dollars per bag.

Fourth, remember that the right sounds can contribute a lot to creating a scary space.  You can find great Halloween CD’s for as low as five dollars.  The moans of ghosts and goblins will begin to create a haunting atmosphere as your party guests walk up to the door.

Halloween is a lot of fun but it doesn’t have to cost a bloody fortune to throw an eerie bash.  Just take your time and think creatively before you head out to buy your Halloween party decorations.  And, remember to make a list before you go shopping so that you don’t end up buying items that you don’t need.

Happy Haunting!
